A new update, and this time with pictures!

Flikka is such a cutie, and she's as sweet as she is cute. The picture where she is standing nicely, is usually just how she is, however at one point during the lesson, we were having a little dispute about whether or not she wanted to continue being photographed, so she pinned her ears and stopped listening. Just so you all know, my ears were pinned further back than HERS! (Guess who won?)

But the picture that I would definitely like to comment on is the one with my little brother on her. He is becoming a pretty good little rider, and although I would still consider him a beginner, he has never had any trouble with her what-so-ever - which brings me to the point as to why I am commenting on this particular photo; those of you with small kids or grandkids that are looking for an excellent horse, you better bring your wallets or you just might be outbid by a 12-YEAR-OLD!

See you all in a few days!
-Samantha

P.S. if you would like to get a hold of me, the best way is to leave a message on my cell, 612-232-5318, or call my mom (deb) at 763-221-3224

Hi everyone -

I'll apologize in advance for no photos; I have Deb Farm from the Rescue coming out to take some next week (THANKS DEB) so you will a get to see the long anticipated pictures of Flikka under saddle.

I will say it again, she is an amazing horse, I have been taking her on solo trail rides for the last few weeks, last week increased our rides to about 6 miles on each ride. I am so proud of her, she NEVER spooks at anything, we even have some road construction going on by our house and she could care less as we ride by the big belly dump trucks and bulldozers. I also take her into the refuge and deer and turkeys don't bother her either.

We only have issues with the indoor arena, she has a really hard time focusing on me, so we walk around a little each day in hopes of her getting over this by the Challenge. If anyone knows ANYONE with kids that are looking for a SAFE ride for their kids, please give me a shout and I would love to have you come out and take a ride on her.

As a family, we love her and want her to go to a good home, and are willing to keep her upon adoption for one month and will give you lessons on Flikka until you are comfortable taking her home for yourself. If you don't have a place for her, we would love to keep her for you. A discounted boarding rate will be given to anyone who adopts from the Rescue.

Flikka's training has been going... well, amazing! She walks, trots, and canters like a pro. Ii have had a wide range of people "hop" on her and it seems that anyone can control her. My little brother (12 years old) can jump on her and run around the arena and so can my mom . Flikka seems to be a very passive horse and doesn't even spook on trails . I believe she would be an amazing horse for ANYONE. I should have some photos of her shortly.

Flikka is doing great, I have been riding her around bareback and she seems to like it, she has never bucked or done anything naughty. She seems very eager to learn, but sometimes gets frustrated and flicks her tail. I just put a saddle on her the other day and she was a little bit nervous, but she soon calmed down and realized it wasn't going to hurt her. She is kind of scared of the Fly Spray bottle but we are working on that.

As for her trailering, it no longer takes us an hour to get her in the trailer; she hops right in eager to go to new places. She has been lounging quite well, but is a little bit difficult when it comes to her left side. When I first started to get her used top new things, she would plow right into you because she was so scared, I am happy to report that she no longer does that. She trots over tarps, walks over poles, and doesn't even flinch when a bag flies at her. I will be sending in some pictures of her ASAP.

To get in touch with Samantha Provost regarding Flikka, or to set up a time where you can meet them both, please feel free to contact Samantha via e-mail or at 763-221-3224 or 612-232-5318.

About Samantha Provost: Hello everyone, sorry this took so long. I am Samantha Provost, Flikka's trainer. About me - I am 16 years old and a junior at Princeton High School. My mom bought me my first horse (Sassy) when I was 11. She was a green-broke Paint. Sassy and I learned a lot together; I learned that patience (which at 11 and currently at 16 is not my strong suit) when dealing with young horses is always the best way to get what you want. I also learned that not unlike myself, I needed to repeat things over and over and over and over. Sassy learned that sometimes someone one-tenth her size IS IN CHARGE. and together we have made amazing accomplishments.

We have gone from running a 47 second pole pattern in my first horse show in 2006 to now running low 12's. I have also learned that I don't always know everything, and that if you listen to the horses, chances are they will tell you what you're doing wrong and how to do it right. I may not be the most experienced trainer in the Challenge, in fact I am pretty sure I am the least experienced, but I can promise I won't let any of you down ...especially FLIKKA! !
